Is the Harrell DNA study you are referring to the one referenced on this page?
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~harrelld/index.htm
I noticed Roberta Estes was one of the administrators for the FTDNA Harrell DNA project.
Doing a family DNA project I have come across these cousins on GedMatch with Harrell ancestors in their genealogy:
M201817 and F387947 – both descendants of Sarah Bryant b.15 Jul 1760 Edgecombe NC – daughter of Elizabeth Harrell 1730-1797- granddaughter of Thomas Harrell 1712-1763.

It was the Paternal Ancestry Testing done on Family Tree DNA. The Harrell Collaborative didnt feel that there was a connection with Phillip Harrell b. 1787 in Bardstown, Ky. As usual nothing is conclusive,” only related” loll. It does lead me to ponder on the idea that James Harrell b. 1765 might have been married to Elizabeth Crume whose father was Phillip Crume.
December 17, 2014 at 6:33 pm #37743Do you know if any of these participants have their DNA uploaded to GedMatch?
It would be interesting to compare versus my family and other cousins who have Harrell in their tree.
December 17, 2014 at 6:33 pm #37744No I dont know that they do. There are several Harrell forums with many different thoughts. Hence they are only as good as the DNA submitted. Since my ancestry had the for thought to name everyone the same it becomes a maze with no end. The one thread of hope finding Phillip Harrell b.1787 father is the DNA strand that links to the other Hairrell of Noah Hairrell as the Uncle of Phillip Harrell b. 1787. I will be out in DC in 2 weeks going to the Nat.Archives again. I will look to see what I might find about James Harrell and family. I still contend that Elizabeth Crume daughter of Phillip Crume of Shenandoah Valley, Va. was related to me. But not to fear, I have been wrong more than I am right…
Gail Haferkamp on rootsweb submitted this info in 1999

There is other info of Va Harrell Records too May 28, 1999 from: Gordon M Harrel and Helynn Carrier gives a big picture
Take Care

December 17, 2014 at 6:33 pm #37746Awesome job researching Cathie. You’ve done amazing, and I’m sure you will do much more. The Maxsons it seems go back to RI 1600s with, some help from others trees. It took something as simple as changing the name in a search from Maxon to Maxson. Richard first descendant here of England. Its the Crow line that throws me. I get no further than John Crow supposedly born in Va and wife supposed to be a Blazer last name, from Pa..somehow they end up in KY and come up through IN much same as the Harrells did. Happy hunting and please do keep me updated.
December 17, 2014 at 6:33 pm #37747I’m so glad your not as limmited in you research abilities as I am Cathie. I wish you good finds.
December 17, 2014 at 6:33 pm #37748Please remember that I live close enough and would be more than willing to help look for you at the places I am. Thank you for your kind words, you too will find what you are seeking.

Yes the line you are talking about is it on Ancestry? If so several of our relatives stop by passing through on a genealogy find. I felt I couldnt help her with Maxson or Crows since I had enough problems with Harrells. They were and are looking for John Crow. I will look to see what the group found. Both of their ancestry trees are private, but I will check if you like? Take care I am around if you want me to look for anything.
December 17, 2014 at 6:33 pm #37750Yes Cathie, everything I found is on Ancestry. Thanks for offer to help search. On John Crow, he is buried in the Argos cemetary they turned into a park for appearance sake…much like other of our ancestors I believe. Which is a shame to me..but I will get you what info I have on them from there.
December 17, 2014 at 6:33 pm #38132I found Phillip Harrell’s (1787-1857) will. In it he says his son Jesse Ray Harrell had already passed, and so leaves his share of estate to his children when they are of age. This means Jessie passes sometime between 1855-57. No wonder he was hard to find. 🙁 Phillips other children are James H. and William M. Harrell, Sara Ann Pope, Hannah Patten, Catharine Patten, and Philip M. Harrell.
Pardon me if I already posted this another time, I loose track…
1800 tax list for Nelson Co. KY leaves these men as possible fathers to Phillip, without further research I have not ruled anyone out by age or otherwise.
Isaac Harrell, James Harrell, Moses Harrell, Moses Jr. Harrell, William Harrell, Chester Harrell, James Harrell, and John Harrell.
