Hi Techteach! Yes, that will be interesting for your Japanese colleague for sure. You know, I noticed we’ve got Davis surnames in common. Are yours from the Virginia area? I don’t have alot on mine yet. My 4th Greatgrandmother was Johanna Davis b 1778 ?VA d 1837 Wall Back, Clay Co. VA m John Jehu Summers b 1776 Toms Creek, Shenandoah, VA d 1864 Wall Back, Clay Co., VA. m-date 1802. I don’t have any parentage for her yet. So, anyway, I wondered about your Davis line? Blessings~^~Greydove
November 22, 2007 at 10:20 pm #29921I am not sure why I put that surname there. I will have to check. Maybe it is from my grandfather’s line. I doubt that we would connect, although one group was from near Wheeling, WV, within 15 miles of Winchester, VA. Few people on this forum connect with me; I think Linda would if we worked hard enough to find it, but my folks mainly came from WV and PA, and went to OH and then IA from there. I believe that they were mixed Shawnee.

Techteach, Most all my ancestors that came from Europe settled in PA, migrated into VA, settled in WVA (for a while) Nicolas Co. mostly, then on to OH, IN, etc. I have always felt drawn to Shawnee. Thanks for your reply as it gives me an idea for researching that tribe a little closer. Seems our ancestors had similar migration paterns. Once again, good luck and safe travel with your trip to Pine Ridge ~^~Greydove (aka Donna)
November 22, 2007 at 10:20 pm #29925Hey Greydove,
For what its worth I have Davis way back that married into my Stamper line.
Mary Polly Davis b. 1760 in Amherst Va married Joanthan Stamper JR. I have her father as Barton Davis but this is all I have at this time. Tari
November 22, 2007 at 10:20 pm #29926Davis in Amherst Co in 1760 could very well be Monacan or any of the tribes east of Amherst if Davis were already mixed when they arrived in Amherst.
November 22, 2007 at 10:20 pm #29928Dreaminghawk, Yea, Amherst isn’t far from where my lines were. Monacan? That’s interesting. Thanks for the info. Hey Melungeon (Tari) found out that my Johanna Davis’s mothers surname was Hull. Also, she and Jehu Summers were m 1802 Pendleton, VA, migrated to KY had some kids, migrated back to Clay VA, then to Nicolas Co W VA. They had 20 some kids ( a few sets of twins in the bunch) wow-lol!! Anyway, I was going over other peoples trees that had her in them and I came across something interesting. She’s in a Sizemore tree. I don’t know yet how she fits in but, the tree owner is Richard Tom SizemoreIII. Whadya know?! Thanks for the reply and info 😀 Peace~^~Greydove

Tari, I just found out I have another Davis line besides Johanna. (JEEZ, talk abt confusing!!) Rebecca Davis b 1765 VA d 1850 Calhoun, WVA. dau of James Jr Davis b 1744 Monmouth NJ d 1798 Harrison Co. VA m Rebecca Bland b 1750 NJ d 1803 Harrison Co VA James parents- James Sr Davis b 1720 PA d 1778 NJ m Judith Maxon b 1720 d 1773 NJ James Sr Davis’s father William Davis b1663 Wales d 1745 NJ m Elizabeth Pavior b 1665 Eng d 1760 NJ. Boy when you have the same surname of different lines in your tree, it can get confusing. Also, when two bros marry two sisters, that mixes it up too, ya know what I mean? Well, take care and good hunting~^~Greydove:D
November 22, 2007 at 10:20 pm #29942Just thought I’d chime in…I too have Davis on one side for sure…haven’t proven my paternal Davis connection.
Mary Elizabeth Davis b. 1784 VA m. William Crawford KY, they then moved to St. Francois, Missouri, d. 1862. I have no parents for her and have found nothing so far in my search.
On my paternal line, Martin Gibson’s wife is said to be Eleanor Davis, however I have found nothing solid, but their son George’s death cert. which lists his parents as Martin and Netty Gibson.

Hiya Shirley, You and I have Davis, Sparks, & Hart lines in common, in the same general areas and time frames (close) we very possibly are connected somewhere. I’ll see what I can find. Blessings~^~Greydove Oh, & btw, I emailed my Aunt Eva ( she’s 86 yrs young-lol! my Dad’s sister, about the find of Margaret Peggy Temple Hart. I inquired again about which Grandmother that Grandpa was referring to when he told me his Grandmother was Indian. She is referring to her Grandmother Mary Margaret Bailes (that was Grandpa’s Mother) so, she must have been 1/2 breed. Here’s what she replied: ” Donna, thanks for sending this, you know I think I lost the other ancestor info when my computer had trouble, or I’m not finding it. Dad’s Mother was from an Indian Tribe, she was Mary Margaret Bailes and looked very much Indian. I loved her dearly, and was by her side when she passed away, just 3 days before Marilyn was born [June 09, 1947]” Marilyn is my Dad’s other sister Mary’s daughter. The year Greatgrandma died was 3 yrs before I was born. I think there exists a pic of her somewhere, I’ll try to find it. Also, almost all of my forefathers were farmers, blacksmiths, mostly farmers-since my maiden name was Fitzwater, ck this website for Panther Mountain, there are alot of other surnames in various counties of yours and other people on this forum. http//www.wvculture.org/history/agrext/agrindex.html
