Hello Shirley & Sandra W:) Thanks for the tidings of good luck. I have nothing yet, but I will post when I do. I feel very close to a break-thru. Take care~^~Greydove
November 22, 2007 at 10:20 pm #29842I have not posted in a long while so I have to catch up a little before going into a long discourse about Nicholas County and specifically Richwood. So for now here are a few things that may help:
http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.aspx
And, also try some research on Nancy Hart to see if the published info about her assists you. She was a Confederate spy and is actually buried in Greenbriar County but Richwood is the closest town.
I hope to catch up here in the next few weeks and visit Richwood later in the Spring.

November 22, 2007 at 10:20 pm #29854Nancy Hart the Confederate Spy!
Boy this lady gets really interesting of all the things that she did!! She was awesome. What really gets mind blowing is that there were two Stephen Hart families. They lived within blocks of each other and both Stephen Hart’s had daughters by the name of Nancy and furthermore had a Nancy around the same age. So no wander so many relatives out there are scratching their head.
Nancy Hart was the daughter of John and Rebecca Hart, he was a farmer in the 1860 Census.
Her brothers and sisters as listed in the 1850 Census of Washington County Virginia were:Jane age 20, Adaline age 18, Mary age 13, Henry age 11, John age 9, Nancy age 7, Joseph age 1/12 months. This gentlemen has the correct account as far as I know. Credit to the author of this clip: Jim Taylor holding picture of his Great Aunt, Nancy Hart is very proud!! http://www.nkclifton.com/nancy.html (the site)

- This account is not exactly accurate concerning the parents, but really good research otherwise. I have to give this gentlement an “A” for trying so hard.

Thank you deragland! This is a very useful link. Also, I have looked into Nancy Hart, but maybe I need to look again. I found something interesting on a William Hart from PA that was in Piedmont area who had a son Samuel that would’ve been born in the time-frame of my forefather-I’m looking into it more. Also thank you Sandra W & Sammarroq Shirley for your help & encourgment:D ~^~Greydove http://virginiaindians.pwnet.org/history/today.php
November 22, 2007 at 10:20 pm #29879Hello All!! Well, I finally knocked down a brick wall. It isn’t my GGG-Grandpa Samuel Hart, but it’s close. I have looked intently at what seems like every angle for him, so I almost missed this. I just finally put Samuel Hart VA into google and was scrolling thru what came up when this caught my eye—Mary Hart.-Spouse: Joseph Tindall-Joseph Tindall and Mary Hart…Mary Hart was born 1834 in VA (15699)-She appeared in the census in Jul 1850 in Alleghany Co., VA (15699)-Parents: Samuel Hart and Margaret Peggy Temple… Well, Hart-Alleghany Co VA & Samuel & Margaret caught my eye, but Temple did not. Well, its them–my GGG-Grandparents. I didn’t have her surname. Margaret Peggy Temple Hart. When you click onto this link–It will be…TEMPLE & RELATED LINES IN AMERICA…scroll down to surname list…then down to H…then down to surname #6…then down to Hart…then down to Samuel (1792)…click onto “narrative”. This goes to show if you keep at it eventually you will get a break in your brick lol:D Now that I have her, maybe I can get more on Samuel? Luck to All~^~Greydove http://temple-genealogy.com PS Mary Hart is my GG-Grandma Margaret (Jane) Hart (Bailes)’s sister.

Hey Greydove, I am most happy for you. That is pretty awesome!! Sounds like a beginning!! I hope you find more information on Samuel Hart! I will probably check it out too, to see if I can find more information on Chief Bear Hart, James Hart I and II, George Hart, Cornelia Hart, Margery Hart, Camelia Hart and finally John Hart. This family is so interesting!! This is where Winnie Green married William Jackson and these families entered into the Hart line.

Hi Shirley:) Yea, you can say that again!!loll!! Wonder why that phrase “brick wall” is used to describe a dead end to a tree branch? I don’t know either, I guess we’re all just “wondering” lol!! I did find out that Samuel Hart & Margaret Peggy Temple were married in 1821 at Rockbridge Co., Virginia and that’s where she was born 1799/1800. Then they went to Alleghany Co. Virginia by 1850 as found on the census that year and their dau Margaret Jane was born there in 1838. She was listed as Jane on the census and I assume that is because she was named after her mother -Margaret. Then my GreatGrandma (Margaret Janes dau was named Mary Margaret ( she was born in 1867 at Nicolas Co., West Virginia) probably named after her Mother, GrandMother, and Aunt Mary Hart. Well, I don’t know if you ckd out the Temple site, but I emailed the web-master Dr Park Temple ( he hails from Burke, VA) inquiring abt info on Samuel Hart. He responded that he didn’t think he had anything more on him other than the 1850 census and the 1821 marriage in Rockbridge. But, jeez, thats alot for a start to me and I told him how much I appreciate that much, you know–time-lines & locations? Has anybody tried GOOGLEEARTH? It’s a free download, tho it’s not in “real” time (images 1 to 3 yrs old) but last nite I googleearthed all over Virginia & West Virginia and it gives you a more vivid sense of where your ancestors were and the migration trails they took. Well, how are your lines coming along? Anything I can do to help you, Sandra W., or anyone else, please let me know. Also, Techteach , if you see this, I was thinking abt you and your trip to Pine Ridge. Have you gone yet? Let us know how you faired, ok? Well, back to the drawing board ((lol)) Good Luck to All & Peace, Love, & Many Blessings!! Have a nice wkend, too, oh, can you say SPRING??!!!!! ~^~:D Greydove
