I was reading the posts on Sparks ( I also have Daniel, Foster and Reynolds, etc. ).
I descend from Christopher Branch ( Immigrant) who was married to Mary Frances Addie. Christopher’s sister Mary / Martha Branch was the wife of
Thomas Jefferson ( Immigrant). Grand-parents of President Jefferson.
Christopher and his sister were the children of Lionel Branch and
Valenta Sparks.
I don’t know if they came over. I don’t know her parents names.

Hi Greydove,
I noticed a lot of Nicholas, County in your post…a lot of my father’s family still lives there. My great Grandma & Grandpa came there in the early 1900’s, before that they were in the Grundy area, VA. Sounds like we have more than just surnames in common…:)

It’s funny, you have a Mary Polly Foster. My paternal great – grandmother
was a Sarah Ann Foster married to Morgan Howard. Their son, DeWitt was my grandfather
and his sister, Mary ‘Polly’ Howard married Childs Alando Parker. But, I ‘ve seen a Mary Howard married to Isaac Parker
who Morgan acted for as his ‘power-of-attorney’, I believe, when he was removing to Bibbs Co. Ga. about 1836-37.
The story goes that Morgan went South , probably GA again, with a wagonload of tobacco and never returned.
He is believed by relatives to have been murdered.
Sarah , his wife, was born 1832 and lived to be 99 1/2 years old .
She never remarried .
November 22, 2007 at 10:20 pm #29517Here is another good book that Wes Hart suggested to me. This is very informative concerning Hart relatives and NA blood. Here is a clip from chat with Wes:
Ruth Gibbs Hart discused that very subject in her book “Descendants of Peter and Dority Hart 1740-1995 Virginia and North Carolina and Allied Families”. Her research was inconclusive but considers it likely the Hart family was at least part Indian. Peter JR and Hannah Poe’s son William H Hart looks Indian in his photo included in Ruth’s book and I can send that to you as an attachment. Family lore however says that it was his mother Hannah Poe that was part Cherokee. I have not ruled out my Hart line.

Hi Magnolia and All!! 🙂 Yes, it is kinda funny that we have GreatGrandmothers Foster that could possibly be related. Mine was from Prince William VA, where was yours born? Also, it caught my attention that your GrandFather DeWitt had a sister named Mary Polly. You know, I scanned over all my GreatGrandmother’s first names, & it seems there was alot of Marys, Sarahs, Nancys etc. Pretty much English souding names. But some, not all, of these women are hard to trace back. I hear it wasn’t uncommon for our GreatGrandmothers to have been from various NDN tribes and assimilated into European families to mainly survive in the white mans world in those times. We have to remember it was mainly survival. That is why it is so darned hard to trace back to our NDN roots from documented recds. Also, Hi to you Shirley & Sarah!! Yes Shirley, we have Hart, Davis & Sparks in common & also Nicolas Co. WVA. Gotta be some connections somewhere?? oh, also, NDN as well. And Sarah, we have Hart, NDN blood, areas of ancestry(regions) and Magnolia, you & I have Foster, Reynolds & other connections as well. I’ve spent the last 2 nites digging for more info on our family lines
& NDN connections & it is not easy. Will post soon as I have some mutual info. Take care all & good to see many new people here at SaponiTown forum. Many Blessings to All 😀 Greydove
