Bill, my mom does remember that Tom Potter (the one who died in the fifties in his early thirties, I believe), his mother was named Kate Rickle. I’m not sure if that’s a maiden name, or a name from a later marriage.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12045Could that be a corruptoin of “Riddle”? Isn’t Riddle a surname of known mixed Indian families of western Virginia and North Carolina? When I was a kid there was a family of Riddle’s across the street.

October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12051Linda:
I am not sure if there are Rickles buried where my Potters are, but there certainly are folks in my hometown area with that name. There was a kid in 7th grade who sent me love notes named Rickles. And I think I have seen that name in areas as I have looked around. It almost rings a bell in my mind, Vance, that I have even read that information somewhere as I have poked around genealogy sites.

October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12164Twice when I saw your post on Ricketts I confused it with this one — Rickle. Bill, does this help you figure out which Potter is ours?
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12213Linda,
This may be him because it’s the only family with a Catherine (Kate) and a Thomas.
1920 Cook Co., ILL census, ED 2244, pg246B, 9 Jan, at 113, 195:
POTTER, Thos., 41, Va, Va, Va.
…………, CATHERINE, wife, 40, Ky, Ky, Ky (“Kate”?)
…………, Ethel, dau, 11, ILL.
…………, Florence, dau, 8, ILL
…………, Virginia, dau, 6, ILL
…………, THOMAS, son, 2 +3/12, ILL
Thomas (sr) is listed as born WVa on the 1930 census.
Catherine is listed as born Connecticutt on 1910 and 1930 census
Ethel is marr’d to Edward ANDERSON, 28, b.ILL, on the 1930 census and living with her parents.
Catherine may have been previously marr’d because on the 1910 cnesus, she and Thomas are listed as marr’d for 3 yrs and Ethel M. is 8 yrs old, OR the “3” should be a “13”, altho I couldn’t find Thomas or Catherine anywhere in 1900.
The 1910 census shows them living at 331 SOUTH Centre Ave., Chicago.
You might want to run these names by someone and see if any of them ring any bells and let me know.

🙂 I’m sorry for interupting, I feel really rude! Do you guys think that we could maybe put all this wonderful geneology info. in the geneology section? I think I started throwing everyone off on about page 3 when Techteach and I got to talking Kitty cats! I am so sorry, but I think the board is getting kind of confusing with stuff being in strange places. 😀 If you say no, that’s o.k. too. I’ll cope! And I promiss I will do my very best in every thread to stay on track and only put cutesy stuff where it should be! I think Linda’s Potter stuff needs it’s own thread because it’s just as important as any of them. And then we can keep digging around the cemetary without mixing up everything……??????:D Love Ya’, Lynella.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12225I’ve just never found an easy way to move a part of a thread.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12226Linda,
I know! I can’t imagine!:D It blows!:D Maybe Cindy knows! I hope…..Love & Light, Lynella.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12227Or, maybe Bill knows…..Or I could print it all and we could make a new thread of Potters and a new thread for the Cem. And just get rid of this conglomeration all together. Sounds like a lot of work though. Let’s see what Bill can do about moving it. OR, since Bill’s overwhealmed right now and all, we could post an ad for a coputer wiz from our family here.:) Lynella. I know, sounds pretty…..lynella-ish doesn’t it!:D Well, brainstorming with what little I have!
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12236Nope, I don’t know how to move a file. I do not have administrator access anyway.
The Potter part of this would only take a couple of copy and pastes to move anyway, but I do not have time at the moment.
Cindy
PS: I checked what little I have on the Potters. No Thomas’ – but I have very little. My William Potter is DAR but I have even suspected that to not be true. However, I followed a line up on familysearch one time and saw that the Potters had lots of ministers and a line in that family went back to the Mayflower. I think they were mostly white, as my great aunt said that the family had nothing to do with either Sinkeys or Potters, but that of the two, the Potters were more acceptable.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12240Techteach,
I fully understand. Ah yes, and ADMIN. Access would be key! A copy and paste should be easy for some:) Well, it’s no great deal anyway. After catching Bill’s frustration with the fam. Surnames thread I just thought I’d toss this out. I rather find looking into the Potter folks quite interesting and I’m not about to go sticking my limbs in freezing waters! I know when to stay put! I know absolutely nothing about this moving stuff and I know you are very busy, as is everyone. We can keep going this way and just sort stuff out as we go. It’s COOL.:D
I’ve been keeping my eyes open for Potter names in my travels so far there hasn’t been much. I came across a Pottersby or something of the like the other day. So, they’re in my head and if I find anything then I’ll put it here. I want to thank you again Cindy for the extra info. on the Ricketts. I know Kerry will appreciate it.;) Don’t be working too hard girl! We all need a break now and then. Love & Light, & Kiss the Kitties for me! Lynella.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12244The problem with moving is that you loose the name of the person doing the posting. I don’t know. I should look into it, but I don’t think there is a capability to move a small segment of a thread and make a new thread with it.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12248Ah, it’s no biggy!:D Don’t worry about it. We can work with this and we’ll just stick to Your Potter Kin, BLKFT. cem, and Kitty cats!:D I like it. It could work! Lynella.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12249Linda,
This is a reply to your Potter query several posts above this one with an implied question in it.

October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #12379I was goofing around Cemetary sites and found a link on an Indiana State Historical site that had no info about the Blackfoot Cemetary and some of the older ones around the state. They had a spot where you could submit cemetaries for them to ad, so I just gave them the name, location and county. Love Ya’, Lynella.
